Criminal laws deals with act or omission in violation of a law that prescribes punishment for its violation.

It aims at conviction and punishment of the accused if he is found guilty, or at his acquittal if he is found not guilty. Major Criminal laws in India are Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 (CrPC) dealing with the procedural aspects of criminal law and Indian Penal Code 1860 (IPC). IPC defines offences and prescribe punishment for thier violation.
